Leak behind the shower wall

I have a leak behind the shower wall (I think).
When the shower is running, I can hear a drip
in the ceiling in the room below the shower.
I have tested the drain; poured water down it
while shower was off and no drip. I replace the
washers and seats to no avail; still leaks.
My question. Am I now looking at tearing the
sheetrock out in the closet behind the shower
to find what is leaking? Or, are there other
options I have overlooked?
Thanks for the help.

Are you sure this is a leak? Do you see water stains on the ceiling below? This could just be expansion and contraction of the water pipes, if there is movement on the pipes and there up against something, it can make a ticking sound like a drip in the wall.
