There is good hot water pressure throughout house, except in the shower. We have replaced the old shower head with a new one, with no improvement. One plumber has told us we need a new hot water unit. We cannot understand what can be wrong with the unit if the rest of the house has good hot water pressure. Can anyone think of any other potential problems.

Cool

Sounds like you have a problem with the diverter valve or hot water valve for the shower.
Go to "Repair/Fix-It" above in the Plumbing section, and find the type of faucet that you have for an illustrated how-to.
Good Luck!

Same problem here.

Interesting.

We've got the same problem; a tub/shower on the third floor has low pressure on the hot water. But, the sink in the same bathroom has good pressure.

We've got a Symmons Model A fixture - this is a one-piece control that rotates to adjust water temp, and it has a second lever to select tub or shower. Is it likely that we have problem in this control, and if so, is it something a novice is likely to be able to fix?
