Sink won’t drain unless I run garbage disposal

I’m not sure when it started but I believe it is something within the garbage disposal. I do not feel anything the hole going into the disposal.

Nightfly-

I think that means you have a clog but the garbage disposal’s force can push water past the clog. In other words, there is still some room for water to be forced past the clog. You could try plunging with a little water in the sink.

You can look down into the disposal with a flashlight and see how clean it looks but I don’t think that would rule out clogs past where you can see.

Also, if that doesn’t work, if you feel comfortable doing this, you can remove the p-trap. If water is draining out there fine from the disposal, then the clog would be past the p-trap and that would eliminate the disposal.

Or if you don’t want to remove the p-trap to see where the clog is you could try cleaning the p-trap as described on this link.

Yes.... you have a clog after the disposer. A very common problem.
You will probably need to remove the trap and snake the wall.

Do not feel the hole going into the disposal, you could get your fingers cut by sharp moving parts
