Are you asking about your home's plumbing or are you asking about the oil fill & vent lines for an oil storage tank?

Per code, pipes can be wrought iron, steel, or schedule 40 brass pipe. Note that cast iron is not an option, both in the piping and the fittings. Galvanized steel can be used, as the galvanization is a coating on the outside of the pipe.

Agreed with Tony, galvanized steel or black steel pipe can be used for fuel oil fill/vent pipes.

Many (all?) areas prohibit galvanized pipe to be used with natural gas piping because of the galvanized coating can flake off and foul the appliances. But irrelevant for the question at hand!
