My kitchen drain is backing up through the disposal. What could be the problems causing this? Could there be a blockage in the disposal itself? Can a liquid drain opener work through the disposal? There is an elbow right from the disposal connection(pvc). I have a slab foundation. I am fairly handy, what can I do myself?
Thanks

In my opinion the best friend to a plugged drain is the plunger. Start with it. When using one in a double compartment sink plug off the side not being plunged this will prevent the pressure from escaping through that side and the plunger will be more effective.
Another opinion:
The liquid, crytal and most drain cleaners are overated. I have never used them because there are two main types of clogs the kind the plunger is very effective for (local right at the spot being plunged) and the kind down the line in the main. A snake is needed for that type.

By the way always after a drain like this is cleared run hot water down it and flush it out.

Good Luck
