Bought the house ~5 years ago. Had the lines cam'ed and no one mentioned anything. Saw the water rise after maybe a year, now it happens more and more often, about every 4 months. I clean it with my harbor freight snake and that solves it for four months. This seems really excessive though. my harbor freight snake The floor drain overflow for the washer, dishwasher (above) and kitchen sink (above) the pipes go "up" to the kitchen sink and dishwasher
PJmax City Sewer. Do you think it could be a broken line or tree root as Norm201 suggests? I didn't think so because I didn't think my snake would be able to go through roots, and it's only a 50' snake. Should i go ahead and get it on camera?
Probably not broken but if you snake it and it's good for several months.... that could indicate tree root problems. They would show up in a camera scoping.
Check with your neighbors and see if they have similar overflow problems.
Some old drain lines, especially kitchen lines, do get gunked up with grease. I'd expect a snake with a head that size should clean it out pretty well... but it's possible that you're just poking a snake-sized hole in the grease, which then takes a few months to get gunked up again.
Do you notice anything coming out on the head of the snake? Usually you'd end up with grease, or tree roots, or whatever giving a bit of a hint what is causing the clog.
Zorfdt it seems to be mostly grease. at first it never happened, now it backs up quicker and quicker, every few months. I snake it and don't get any roots on the way back, just grease, but it's only a 50' snake. it does the trick though, just not for long. Do you think I need a longer snake? Or a larger snake bit? I've never used a larger one than the one in the pic.
Yeah, it happens. You'll need to get a snake down with a larger head to clear out most/all of the grease. Once cleaned, it'll build up much more slowly. You can also use an enzyme cleaner to keep the grease levels down too.
Hello all! Love this site. First time posting. I am going to be installing a magic pak unit and also a hot dawg heater. 60K BTU Hot dawg for the garage and 30K BTU for the magic pak that will heat the porch on other side of the wall. The Gas line I will be burying from the other side of the house and will run approx 170 feet to the garage. Can I get by with 3/4 inch polyethylene or would I need 1 inch?
Thanks in advanceRead More
We're getting a new washing machine "installed" in a few days after our old one went kaput (word of advice: avoid samsung washers IMO) - but the Home Depot installers already said that we have to disconnect the old unit first. The problem? I've never messed with water shut offs before (with the exception of a newer water line to our refrigerator) and don't want to wind up with a basement full of water because I turned them the wrong way or didn't turn them all the way off.
Which direction (clockwise? Counter-clockwise?) do I need to turn these particular water valves?
Thanks!
