Question

I'm replacing a water heater element, the bolt on kind, and I can't get it to seal up watertight. I'm using new gaskets. Is there some product or technique that I can use to make this work?

Thanks!

I haven't done an element in quite a while (usually my tanks fail before I need to do an element), but I would think ordinary gasket sealant would work fine. Check your local auto parts store for one that is suitable for water pump gaskets - same basic function, seal hot water areas. (Permatex or other brand). Be sure to follow the directs on curing time before you turn your water back on.
