Replacing outdoor spigot

The "backwash" prevention thing broke off of our outdoor water spigot. Now we can't attach hose. How do we replace the spigot? Is this something we should get a plumber for, or can a novice do it yourselfer attempt it?

See if you can unscrew it counter-clockwise. If it unscrews, wrap 2-3 flat turns of teflon tape clockwise only on the threads of the new one before installing it.
