I noticed my toilet start to overflow and I used the plunger and nothing changed. As I started to empty the water manually (with a cup) into the sink next to toilet-- I noticed the water re-entering into the bottom of the toilet. Is the toilet clogged or my sink???

This is a small bathroom with just a toilet and sink in it.

Cool

Go:"Repair/Fix-It" above, and look in the Plumbing section for illustrated how-to.
Good Luck!

clogged toilet

Is the toilet clogged or my sink???

Neither. Sounds like the main sewer line is clogged and letting waste back up in toilet since sink is not backing up but water is reentering toilet. If you were to pack toilet with rags and turn sink on, eventually the water would back up in sink. Go under house and look for clean-out-plug near toilet on the down flow side. Mine is directly below toilet where it drains into main drain (big pipe)with small pipe from sink connecting at the side of larger pipe. Be careful whhen unscrewing plug. May get wet when waste comes rushing out. Can use a plumpers snake to dislodge blockage.

P.S You don't say whether you are on city sewage system or spetic tank. If septic tank, may be time to have it pumped out.
