Question

Hello,

Our shower's hot water pressure is very low, all of the sudden, and a leak is coming from the shower head when the water is turned off. The pressure is fine everywhere else in the house and the shower head is okay since the cold is working fine. Please advise, and thanks!

If the cold pressure is fine and the hot pressure is low, the problem is in the shower valve itself. What brand of shower valve do you have? Single or double handle?

Smile shower's hot H2O pressure loss

Our shower has the original plumbing from 1966; there are 2 handles--one each for the hot and cold. Is the shower valve easy to repair? Thanks so much, Lefty!

Probably a pretty easy fix. Shut the water to the house off and take the hot side stem apart. What has probably happened is that the washer has come apart and is clogging the valve. Omce you get the valve apart, identifying the mfgr. should be fairly easy, and getting replacement parts should be just as easy.

I had a contractor tell me that using a vapor barrier under
the cement would cause spider cracks in the cement. Any comments? This is for an unattached garage.
