Help, I have a 4 yearold new home whose hot water tanks lower valve is leaking. We tried to tighten it and the plastic knob broke off with still a little water trickle. CAn this valve be replaced?Or do we have to order a new whole tank. And how would you do this. Thanks

Cool

No problem.
Cut off the gas or the breaker at the panel to the water heater.
Turn off the cold water supply valve into the top of the heater.
Attach a water hose to the drain spigot that is leaking, Open a nearby hot water faucet, open that spigot (or remove it if you have to), and drain the heater tank.
Remove that plastic drain spigot after draining, take it with you, and go get a new spigot (brass).
Wrap 2-3 flat turns of teflon tape clockwise only around the threads of the new spigot.
Install the new spigot tightly.
In this order, open the nearest hot water tub faucet, open the cold water supply valve to the water heater, and run the water until all of the air is out of your heater and lines.
Once you have a full flow of water, turn on the water heater, and you should be good to go. If you need any help, just come back on this same thread and ask.
Good Luck! Mike
