Can someone please explain the differences in properties between ABS and PVC pipe and/or primary reasoning for using one over the other?

Thanks,

What is the difference between PVC, CPVC and ABS?
These are three different types of plastic pipe used in plumbing applications. PVC is Poly(Vinyl) Chloride, CPVC is Chlorinated Poly(Vinyl) Chloride and ABS is Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene. PVC and ABS pipe are normally used for Drain, Waste and Vent (DWV) systems, while CPVC is used for water distribution systems. It is important to choose the correct solvent cement based on the type of plastic pipe being used.

In my opinion I would only use PVC whether it was drain waste vent and water only copper.
I like PVC because ABS has a tendency to bow over time.

Good Luck

Thanks for the response. I personally use all PVC for DWV and onsly copper for water. I was just curious why people choose ABS. Cost? Strength? Codes?
