Eljer Shower Mixing Valve
#1
My home was built in 1995 and has all Eljer plumbing (both pottery & brass). I understand that Eljer is no longer making brass and I need some help with that. I have a shower with an Eljer mixing valve. When the shower handle is rotated to the cold water position, it has good water pressure. When the handle is rotated to the warm/hot position, the water pressure falls dramatically, even before hot water reaches the valve. I'd like to replace the cartridge that's in the valve but I can't find a replacement Eljer cartridge anywhere. Where can I find a replacement cartridge and how can I find the right one? Is there a model or code # on the existing cartridge that indicates exactly what it is? Will another brand of cartridge fit in the Eljer valve? If so, which one? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Don't quote me on this but I thought that eljer was bought by Kohler. Even if I am wrong, I am reasonably sure that one of the bigger players bought their line and are continuing their repair systems. This sounds like a job for a plumbing specialty store and not the home depot/lowes wherehouse stores. before you do that try removing the cartrige entirely and turning on the water. It may push a piece of sediment or rust out of the system. Close your shower curtain before you do this, it is a big, messy, wet explosion without the cartrige in. Take the cartridge with you to the store if you can. Web research may also be helpful in this matter.
