Not sure if this falls under plumbing

I am remodeling a bathroom. Taking out a shower and replacing it with bathtub/shower surround. Problem is that the existing shower floor is approximately 4'x4'x3" poured concrete in a metal type of tray with the drain imbedded in the concrete. The drain pipe goes directly outside (not a problem to remove this and tie into main sewage line). The bathroom is on the second floor. What would be the best way to take out the concrete? I can get a pry bar under it but it is extremely heavy. Should I try to pry it up or should I get a sledge hammer and try and break it up? Would hate for this to fall through to the 1st floor. House was built in 1953 and has not been taken care of. What should I do?
