chemical smell to cold water line

We recently replaced a sink and rerouted the incoming water lines. We added a couple feet of galvanized pipe to the existing system to connect the new sink and faucet. The hot water is fine but the cold has a chemically smell when it is freshly drawn from the tap. After 10 minutes the smell seems to disipate. We used teflon tape to conntect the pipes on both the hot and cold runs. We pulled out the faucets to test the water through just the new pipes and the problem is in them rather than the new faucet. Any suggestions?

Replace the galvanized pipe with copper for both or CPVC plastic on the hot line and PVC plastic on the cold line. Voila!
Good luck!
