clogged drain

Sorry to ask a seemingly simple question, but my wife just sent a shampoo bottle cap down the bathtub drain and now the water won't drain (of course!). Upstairs bathroom - PVC pipe

Can I rent a snake that will eat up the plastic cap (won't it also eat up the pvc piping?) or do I need to open the wall and get to the p-trap?

It would be much easier to snake out the drain.

What about plunging the drain and send the cap through the system?

Cool

You may well have to dismantle the tub drain to remove the cap.
However, you might try plunging the heck out of it just for grins, to see if it will flush it out and way into larger drain pipes.
Plug off the overflow plate before trying to plunge the drain.

Good LucK!
