Angry Sewer gas odor

I have a sewer gas odor coming from the basement. It is more noticeable towards the ceiling of the basement. Is this a cracked vent pipe? We had terrible roots in the sewer pipes and got them out, but now it stinks. HELP>>>

Make sure all drains encluding floor drains in the basement has water in them, take some water and pour into the floor drains.

I had this exact same problem. Turns out the wax ring from the toilet on the first floor had a small opening. The cold air intake from my HVAC system was sucking the gas through this opening or leak into the basement. You never smelled anything in the bathroom on the first floor though. I reset the toilet with a new wax ring and secured the toilet to the floor a bit better than it was and bingo, no more gas.
Check that out for your situation.
