hot water heater needs resetting

My neighbor has a small electric hot water heater with one element in her mobile home. A couple of weeks ago, it stopped heating. She checked the heater and pushed the reset button and it worked fine for 10 days. Then the heater went out again. Pushing reset seems to work. Any ideas of what might be wrong, how to find out for sure, and how to fix it? I'm not sure if this is a plumbing question or electrical.

Cool

The re-set button pops out to turn off the power whenever the water heater is in danger of overheating.
She probably needs to replace her thermostat.
She can try just turning down the temperature setting to see if that stops it, but if it doesn't....new tstat.
Good Luck!

Make sure you shut the power off to the heater before removing the stat, take the stat with you to a plumbing store, you want to make sure you get the correct stat.

There is a good chance the element is junk and causing the ECO to kick out. I've found it best to change a thermostat anytime I change a element especially when the ECO has kicked( the red reset).
