Unhappy Help! Hot Water Leaking - I'm New!

Hi, I am new to this board and really need some help. I am a single mom with MS and no "handyman" to speak of. I pretty much fix everything myself (if I can) to avoid costs.
My daughter heard a bang last night from the basement , I tried to assure her it was nothing and we went back to sleep. I'm guessing now that it was the hot water tank. I have what one would consider a flood downstairs. There is water dripping from a pipe on the side of the tank and I don't know if the water came from there or somewhere else. Does this sound like something that can be fixed or do I need to get a new tank? I have turned off the gas and the water supply (I think?) to the tank. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

If it's coming out of the pipe on the side, sounds like the pressure relief valve opend up either due to a high pressure situation of excess temperature. If this a gas or electric unit?

The water has stopped coming out without turning on a faucet.
