self-draining toilet

self-draining toilet
We have a toilet that, after normal flushing and refilling, drains itself of almost ALL water in an hour or so. We had the problem about a year ago and when I decided to take it up to examine it the next day it was suddenly okay. What can cause this? Several expert plumbers have just scratched their heads so far.

If there is something in the trap of the toilet that obsorbs water it can siphon the toilet trap out . Do you put anything other than toilet paper in the Toilet? Toilet paper dissolves in water but other th9ings, such as paper towels do not. If there is a crck in the toilet trap this can also happen but it wouldn't suddenly dissapear and reappear. Sounds like something is caught in the trap.

Hi, How about a wild guess? The weather. Maybe the wind blows in a certian direction across the roof and creates a vacuum across the vent stack and pulls the water from the trap.
