I have a bath tub with a similar problem:
The tub has a drain plug that is mounted under the faucet. It has a pull-type handle that clicks down to lock it into place and stop the drain.
This part has now broken and I believe it is causing a small leak into the downstairs apartment/condo.
Is this something that can be repaired easily, or would this be a job for a professional?
