Refilling a hot water heating system
I have a residential hot water heating system and I need to drain it in order to make a circulator pump repair. My question is when I go to refill the water in the system how do I know when I am at the correct water level?

Most modern systems have an automatic fill that is simply a pressure regulator that stops the flow of water at a pre-set pressure.
If your system does not have an automatic fill a general rule is 1/2 psi per foot from the pressure gauge to the top of the system.
Depending on how the system is installed you will need to eliminate any trapped air from one or more points. There should be air vents at these locations. Remember if your system does not have an automatic fill you will need to add more water as you bleed off the air.
