Shower drain

I have a shower drain that I plan to cover over (making a closet) how do I cap off the shower drain. I am concrened about gasses/odor escaping. I noticed Depot sells a plug for testing can I get away with using one of those? Any suggestions?

is this a slabor wood floor? The best way is to remove the shower drain and hard cap it below floor level. If it is an abs drain then glue on a cap or cleanout on the tailpiece above the trap. Otherwise cut the tailpiece about 1" above thr trap and nohub a fitting cleanout onto it.
