Unhappy Tub spout drips with Shower On

Hi-

I just moved into a new (to me) house last weekend, and now the fun begins.

I've got one of those single handle faucet showers, and when
I switch from the tub spout to the shower, water still drips out of the spout.

I took the faucet handle assembly off, and looked for any worn bits, but found nothing. I also noted that the spout on the tub was in sorry shape on the bottom side of it.

Any ideas?

Thanks
-Rich

Cool

You need to replace the tub spout w/diverter.

If it has a slot under it, it may have an Allen wrench set screw that needs to be loosened to remove the old one.
If it doesn't, it will just unscrew counter-clockwise.
Get a one-size-fits-all diverter spout of your choice. Wrap 2-3 flat turns of teflon tape clockwise only around the male threads of the pipe sticking out of the wall, and tighten the new spout on.
You maybe can do it by hand or you may need a pipe wrench with a cloth under it to keep from marring the finish.
Good luck!

Old Guy - as I read the post, I came to the conclusion that the diverter for the shower was part of the valve - not a diverter in the spout. May be wrong but in that case, would the solution you propose still work?

Cool

Dave,
You're right, It can be read either way.
I just read it the other way. (I have single-handle tub/shower controls with diverter spouts.)
If the diverter is on the spout, my way will work.
If it is in the wall, it won't, of course.
He'll have to repair that instead.
