Smile Do I need a new pump?

03/31/05

Help! My husband and I installed a pond kit that included a pump 2 weeks ago. However, because we were still in the process of fixing it up, there were no plants or fish yet. During the night one night last week, the pump fell over, which moved the tubing out of the top waterfall pond onto the ground and subsequently pumped all the water out of the lower pond (remember, we are still working on it, so we had not yet secured the tubing underground). We discovered it in the morning, and we do not know how long the pump was running dry. Now, it works but makes a small humming/rattling noise (which it did before, but not as loud). Is this okay? Or do we need a new pump before we put in plants and fish?

Thanks,
Robin

If it still pumps adequate water, buy a spare and run the original 'til it quits.
