Indoor water fountain too much pressure

We moved into a house with a "one of a kind" water fountain built in. There is an Intertek 4003807 WPR3600 pump in a box with a pond liner. We have no idea how this thing works. The previous owner just showed us where the switch is to turn it off and on. We found that the water pressure is way too high….we have turned the valve almost entirely off yet it pours through unless the valve is totally shut off. Is this common? We would prefer to have a trickle not a gushing amount of water falling. We can not see any workings of the fountain as any lines are hidden behind the wall. The pump plugs into the laundry room behind that wall but that & the pump is all we can see. Any help would be appreciated as to how what may be behind that wall and ideas how we could better control the water flow. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums.

I'm guessing the pump may be a bit oversized for the application. It sounds like it has a flow control valve in the discharge line which you should be able to control the flow with.

You could consider using a much smaller pump if there is too much overall water flow.
The one in the link... 1200 gph is a third of the capacity.

You can use a valve on the output side of the pump to control the flow. You can also switch to a smaller pump which will cut the energy consumption though I still recommend putting a valve on the output so you can get the exact flow you want.
