Pond construction

Contact your local Dept. of Agriculture Extension Agent about pond construction. Often, ponds have to be dug deep and lined with clay to get them to hold water. As these folks are experienced in farm pond construction and maintenance, they should be your best resource for your problem. The picture that was posted on your link consisted of a hole in the ground with typical clay and sand composition. Depending upon the ratio of sand to clay may determine why your pond is not holding water.

Pond construction

Too, if pond is not spring fed and you don't have aeration, you will tend to get stagnation. To maintain a pond, you need to learn more about pond construction and pond maintenance. For logging competitions, you need to do some research regard regulation pond sizes for these competitions. The Dept. of Agriculture Extension Agent should be able to help you. If you feel the one in your area is not on the ball, contact your State Department Agriculture. This is a free source of information and they should be able to provide you with oral and written instructions and should come to your pond site to inspect and give advice.

12pole, thanks for the reply...we don't really have a "state agriculture dept." here....my pond is not spring fed, as the water table is down about another 4 feet where I am....I just need to keep water in for a couple days....As for regulations regarding the loggers sports...well...this is my show and I make the rules...lol...we don't compete this event with any pros...so everyone faces the same challenges..whether wrong or right.
My pond was about 20 feet away from this one last year but had basically the same composition. I lost my water overnight with a makeshift liner....I am going to try to build a better liner tomorrow, then line it with a sand mix as to not break the liner...I was just hoping someone had a good quick fix....never know if you don't ask. Not sure why the link didn't show up....
