Pump not pumping

My Dad has a pool about 30 yrs old. The pump blew out a few weeks ago and he has replaced the broken parts. It is put back together properly(this isnt the first time the pump as gone out) but for some reason the pump fails to circulate the water through the pump system. The motor runs fine and the empellar is turning correctly but no water is pumping.

He cant afford to have someone come out and fix it. Any ideas?

jflanagan,

If you are sure the pump is put back together properly you might want to look at how you are priming it.
Sometimes it takes a bit of coaxing to get the water flowing the first time.
Not sure how you are set-up but it occsasionally will help if you open an outlet fitting to reduce the pressure against the pump untill it begins to draw.

Wink

What filter do you have there? Is it clean for sure no back head pressure. Like Greg said. Can you open the pump out valve there on the filter or the back wash if you have one. If its a pool pump is the basket O ring in and the cover tight. Sounds like you are getting air . All the pool pumps here prime them selfs.
