Grounding Rod Help

I am waiting for our electrician to call us back in order to hook up the pool, we're very frustrated with that because we keep being put off. Anyway, the installer told us we should ground the pool (bonding ?) so that way our sand doesn't wash out and get sink holes from under the liner. We asked earlier how to do that and we bought #8 wire so we can put back the dirt. We couldn't find new brass screws so will it be ok to use the ones already on the uprights ? We also bought a grounding rod 1/2" is that ok for the pump and bonding ? Our electrician is going to run a protected outside outlet but we're expecting rain and we're worried about wash out under the pool.

Thanks

I dont see what the ground rod has to do with the sand washing out from under the pool???????

Home depot or lowes have brass screws. Dont forget the ground clamp also to go on the rod if it dont have one

The rod has nothing but we thought if we had to run the wire to the uprights in order to put the dirt back around the side of the pool we had to put in a grounding rod, we weren't sure what size to get.

We didn't plan on having to do this but now were worried about wash out if we don't get this done. We also don't know when the electrician will make it out here to tie this all in for us.
