bubbles coming from return line
I recently opened my pool. I had a leak in the backflush valve around the shaft. I took it apart and replace some o rings and that seems fine now. But I now have bubbles coming out from the jets. And the pump just sounds a little funny to me. When open the bleed valve at the top of the filter, air will come out and then I close it when I get water. The bubbles will quit for a short while and then start back up. It never did this before, and I don't think it did it when I first started it up. One book I looked at mentioned pump cavitation and that blocked lines could cause this. Also the pump could be bad. Things MAY have started after I had turned the valve on the skimmer from skim to drain?? And the pump does seem to make more sound when I now turn it to drain. So maybe I did suck something up from the drain but I have good suction at the skimmer. (I didn't measure it but it seems the same as usual) And any obstruction in the line from drain to skimmer shouldn't cause any problem when I turn it to full skim since I shouldn't be pulling water from the drain. What other things can cause air to get into the tank? I would think it has to be a problem before the pump, since any leak after the pump would leak water out from system not air into the system, correct?
Thanks

Yes air is comeing in on the intake side. You dont say what the valves are . If Jandy put new O ringes in them . Also you can try and turn the valve to drain .Take the cover off the pump basket on the pump and take a water hose put it in the drain line with a rag around it turn the water on and see if it comes right out of the bottom drain are blows something out. Also is the basket cover O ring in good.Set the O rings useing petroleum jelly.

Not sure what Jandy is? My filter is an Anthony Apollo. I think it is old. I can't do as you said about using hose because there is a one way valve in the suction line right before it enter the pump. Today I tried to use a rubber stopper that has a hole in it and reached down through the skimmer line and place the stopper in the line that goes to the drain. this is below the line that goes to the pump. I then rigged something up to blow compressed air through the stopper. I didn't get anything through the drain. I was afraid to blow too much for fear of bursting a line, so maybe I didn't leave it on long enough. Strangly enough, when I started my pump today, the bubbles were gone. Even when I put it on full drain, it seemed fine so I am not sure why no air came out the drain when I blew compressed air into the line from above. it?? But after being one for hours, it once again started blowing bubbles and I had air in the filter tank. my biggest fear is cracked pipes.
