Can't balance PH - getting wrong colors!
The water in teh spa is clear, slight smell of bromine. the kids and wife are complaining the water is erritating thier skin, I'm fine.
The problem is that with both the test strips and a test kit, I get colors not on the charts. ( Test strip and test kits change to same colours)
For PH, I get a aqua-blue. For the Cr level, I get a deep red.
What does that mean?
All I did was buy a floater and filled it full o bromine tablets ( from k-mart spa-time)
What's up?
Atleast the water is clear now!

I agree on the alkalinity issue, but recommend the 6 way test strips. That will it'll show free cholorine and total hardness and alkalinity as well. Once you have that data, its' very easy to adjust the pool. I don't agree that you'll have to drain the pool and start over.
If you get the 6 way strips post the results here and I can tell you exactly what you have to do to balance the water.

Took sample to local dealer
He said the problem is that I have too much clorine in the water. and the PH is too high.
I had just added a floater and filled it with bromine tablets (1.5 lbs). It about 1/2 gone. He said that I should remove the floater, its adding too much bromine to the water. then add 2 oz of PH reducer. I should not fill the floater, just throw 3 tablets every week, nothing more.
Unfortunatly Someone told me yesterday that the PH is too low, so I had added 2oz of PH increase. (The sample was taken before I added the stuff). Hope to get it back to normal by the weekend.!
So the PH reducer will cancel the PH increaser I added yesterday, leaving the net amount still too high, perhaps I should add 4oz or reducer?
I did not think this would be so complex. I will go and get this 6-way strips and try it.

I am using the 4-way test strips from hth.
The colors that match show:
FC: 1/2
pH: color on strip os bluey - green.
TA: 40
This is 6 hours after I added the 2oz of PH down.
I will drain it and start over, after the weekend. perhaps it will help clear up the kids ackney
It takes 1 day to get up to temp. ( water from well is 50deg)
But what went wrong? The only thing that changed was that I got a floater filled it with Bromine tablets, alnd let it sit in the water. ( this was one week ago.)
Should I not use a floater?
I will take a sample into a different spa dealer see what they say.

Refill it . Then test it first and go from there
"I see kids here" Could be The sign's all say There is no P in our ool so dont put any in..
With kids you can run a high PH there. Use a little muractic acid to bring it down.
