PLEASE HELP!! Need Procedure to Prime Pool Pump
I recently purchased an older (1965) home that has an inground pool that was probably built in the 1980's. Having never owned or operated a pool before, would someone kindly give me step-by-step instructions in layman's terms as to how to prime the pump? It was running until yesterday when I opened the strainer basket to remove pine needles but now I don't know how to get it up and running again. I did not open the container that holds the paper filters.
Thank you!
Thank you!

Get a container (gallon or so) of water, open the cover for the strainer, pour in water, close cover, start pump. Also make sure level of water in pool is up first so you are not, for instance, sucking air through a skimmer that is above the water level.

Thank you sir, but I had no luck
I followed your instruction, but no luck. There are also a couple of knobs that I tried turning to see if that would help but it didn't. Now I'm not sure in which direction the knobs are supposed to be turned. Seems like I'm hurting my cause more than helping.

I concurr with the tow guy, filling the basket with water should take care of priming. Perhps another try filling will work.
Are those two "knobs" in lines just before the filter basket? And are they knobs, or levers?
If they are levers, then they are likely ball valves. Turned so they point in the direction of the line, they are open. Pointed across the line would be closed.

The pool pumps should prime them self are all do here. When you open the strainer and cleaned it out did you put petroleum jelly on the O ring when you put it back??? are you sure you had it on tight???? Sure there are no pine needles there by the impeller. I would take a water hose and put it into the intake of the pump with the basket out and see if the water will go back to the pool. I have had the intake line stopped up with pine needles.
Id take it out and clean it now also. If its clean its not so hard on the pump
