Heater runs constantly

Heater runs constantly
I have an existing Saratoga Spa, which is quite old. The timers are set properly to only heat a few hours per day, but still the heater runs constantly. Any ideas on what to look for?
Thanks

Not familiar with your particular spa, but it should have a thermostat. If it heats all the time even with the thermostat turned to the lowest setting, the thermostat may either be bad or out of adjustment. The spa we had a few years ago had a similar problem (except in reverse - wouldn't heat over about 95 degrees or so) that I fixed by opening up the cover of the electrical box that the thermostat was mounted in (with power disconnected) and making an adjustment to the thermostat itself. As I recall it had some manner of set screw (might have been allen head) that could be turned to adjust the range of the inner workings to a differenent level. You would have to experiment which direction and how far to turn it if yours has a similar adjustment. Don't force it past the stop in either direction.

Bill,
Do you mean runs when the timer has run out of time and should have turned off or runs all the time when in the on mode?

Thanks Greg, I will check to see if the thermostat can be adjusted as you said. The heater runs all the time, whether it is supposed to (via the timer) or not. The only way to adjust the temperature is to physically turn the spa on and off via the GFCI.!
I will let you know if your suggestion works.

I'm not sure how the controls for your spa work.
If it's only the heater that the timer controls and the temperature stays where you set the thermostat then the timer would likely be defective.
If the temperature goes too high as well, then maybe both controls are bad.
