pool heater mat ... do they work?

i thinking about getting a pool heater mat.

it is a heavy black vinyl affair. it has water filled tubes that are heated by the sun.

does anyone know anything about them? are they effective?

thanks in advance

if you are talking about the thing that's 4 ft by 20 ft and made by fafco? or some similar company then yes, it works.

thing is, make sure you have sun! i discovered that my sun pattern only gave me sun where the sunsaver was from about 10-3 and it just didn't heat up enough. but if you have more sun on the thing, works great...u literally can feel the warm water coming from the return inlet

i had a 12x24 above ground i recently tore down so if you are in SE PA i can sell you a sunsaver cheap

You do mean Solar pads for on the roof. They work real good.Make sure you have the # you need for your pool there. Have had them on 3 pools here and was happy with them all . A 15X30 pool takes 12 - 4'X12' works very good. In summer if pool is to hot you run the pump at night and it will cool the water for you.

yes, the pads cn be put on the roof or beside the pool.

but i hope you meant you need 2 units of 4x12 mats. otherwise 12 units would take up alot of yard space.

solar panels

You can get a lot of info from the internet, using a browser such as google or ask jeeves, or yahoo, just type keywords such as solar panel. For the diyers, the approximate no. of panels (4'x12' or 48 sq ft) required is about 80% of the area of your pool. For example, pool is measured 20' x 40' (area of 800 sq ft.) 80% of 800 is 640 sq ft. Finally, 640 sq ft divided by 48 sq ft ~= 13 panels.

yes they work

Solar heaters work great if installed properly. Square footage of collector area and orientation are the most important factors.
