chlorine in cold water?

Wife took in a sample of water to pool store she was told that the pool does not need chlorine in the winter.Pool is a 35 thousand gallon inground vinel liner.
Water is pretty cold now about 45 no problems with alage also clear.
Is this true it is ok with me if it is because that means I can save money
If I had known this before I could have saved money over the years .
Also while I am at it My pool cleaner a Polaris 160 just goes back and forth in the same spot.

It dont take much chlorine for the pool in the winter time. you should get a 5 in one small test kit. Work with that andyou will see when and if you need a little chlorine. On the cleaner you sure the hose is not cold and stiff???

Will check

I will check the leval of chlorine and use less from now on in the winter. As for the pool cleaner I am thinking the piston is not moving all the way some times it does and sometimes it sticks.I can get it to work by removing or adding sudden pressure by rapid valve movment.

clean as can be

The filter is clean as can be just backwashed and have good low pressure.
The Polaris works off of return pressure and uses a small bag to capture the dirt. The kreepy krawler works off of suction into the skimmer and dirt goes in the filter.(my dad has one).I think I might see if it comes apart and maybe lube the piston O Ring with some silicone spray.
