Help with new Controller install

My spa is a Coast Carribean model new in 2000 I am using a Gecko controller. My spa has 2 220v 2 speed pumps does it matter which one I wire as 2 speed , pump 1 or 2?

The wire harnesses supplied, one is a 14awg 4 wire that runs the 2 speed pump, the other is a 16awg 3 wire pig tail will this be ok to use on my 3HP 230v 1 spd motor ?

It has a 4 wire J&J plugs originally to both motors. Both motors are 3HP 2 speed 230v units. Is pump 1 or 2 normally the 2 speed motor?

Thanks
Jay

Hi JBB , the first pump normally is the circulation / jet pump and should be wired 220v 2 spd. the second pump is a jets only pump, so wire it 220v single speed [ high ]

you didn't say however most 3.0 hp motors require 10 ga. wire as they pull 30 amps. / however read on the motor name plate rating and see what the apms. are if it saays 30 amps use 10 ga. if 20 amps use 12 ga. the 14 & 16 are definitely too small, also check to see [ on the control box / or in the installation manual total amps needed , should be 50 if your wiring is not at least # 6 up to 100 ft. and 50 amp breaker , you will need to up-grade it.

post back and update us,

thanks steve
