How do I identify my filter type?

I have just moved into a new house with an in-ground pool. The filtration equipment is old and any identification has long since gone. The Valve is marked "filtrite quipmaster".

Is there any way to determine if I have a sand/DE/cartridge filter without taking the lid off? (As I said, the equipment is old and I would like to avoid disturbing gaskets for the moment if possible.)

Many Thanks,

Finno

Finno The name is not ringing any bells. Eventually you will have to take the filter apart to clean it. The o-rings will need to be greased or even replaced so you may as well open the filter to see what you are dealing with.
