urgent - skimmer placement?

our pool we are setting up (20x40 - 9 foot deep end) has two skimmers. I have always heard that the skimmers need to go on the east side, so I was going to put one in the shallow end, one in the deep end, both on the east side, which is how I saw someone else do it.

However, the tape from the pool company said to put one on each side. Which is the preferred way to do this?

It depends on the placement of the return lines as well; I would put them in on opposite ends in most cases.

I was going to put the return lines on the west side, opposite from the skimmers. So, something like this?

Is that what I should do, or should I do something differently? We're hoping to set these later today. The walls came with the skimmer holes cut out already.

Or am I better off with either of these (the deep end is the north end)

nevermind - I found out the skimmer is an aqua genie and it is both the skimmer and the return. I also found out that it doesn't matter which side it's on - but they both need to be on the same side and that I don't need a center drain with this skimmer. Also, I don't have to drain the pool in the winter, just put a special cover over the skimmer.
