Adding soda ash also increases total alkalinity right?

I tested my water today. Both total alkalinity and PH are too low, so I added soda ash to it. Will I be able to increase both with only one chemical?
Don't know why, but my water PH seems to drop quite fast...

you need bi car bo nate of soda to raise alakalinity along with the ph
