normal PSI operation range ?

is there a normal PSI operating range on pool filters I have a 3/4 hp pump to a 1200 hayward filter, they say bigger is better but my PSI is like 7....there are 3 return points so flow is hard to measure between all 3 tried to cork them but the plactic housing around is all broken.........also how would you measure for a new skimmer basket, I know the make just not sure which one to order

Oh 5-10 psi or so I would imagine. Mine runs at about 6 in normal mode and 10-12 if I have the solar on. Slightly higher if I've ben remiss in cleaning the filter.

Should be able to get a skimmer basket locally; Home Depot carries them if there isn't a pool store around.

There are so many factors in filter pressure, spa no spa, solar no solar, type of cleaner. One way to find out is by giving your filter a through cleaning, this should give you a clean starting pressure and give you a good indication of when the filter needs cleaning

yea the press gauge goes to like 90 or 100 psi, but I thought normal would be a lot higher, it was 5 last week when brand new, I figured on between 25-35 would be normal, thats what it was with the old DE we had, its a new hayward type 1200 that has the tell tale needle that lets you set when cleaned and tells you 10 psi later when it needs cleaning

Newer cartridge filters have a large amount of surface area and can handle a lot more water flow, less restriction through the filter so a lower psi.
