Pool Pump Impeller

I was wondering.
I have a 2HP pentair whisperflo pump for my pool and my pool guy tell me I can install an impeller to reduce the noise the pump gives off. It's really loud. Can anyone tell me what this means and if it's really possible or is he just trying to get more money from me.

Thanks for any info.

i've never heard of a pentair whisperflo pump, in the 15 years i've been around pools, i have never heard of a impeller giving a noise unless it was cracked.
are you sure its not the motor that you hear?

it may be possible that you have a air leak and your pump is cavitating.
can you see air bubbles in the clear lid on the pump? or does it look full?

you should not see any large air bubbles. maybe tiny bubbles.
you may have a pumpseal that has gone bad causing the pump to cavitate.
post the model # of the pump.

If the noise is a crackling like there are rocks in your pump it is called cavitation. It is from the pump not getting enough water. 2 hp w/f min of 2 plumbing, also check the plumbing in the front of the pump you want a good 6 of straight pipe into the front of the pump. Dropping the impeller size will help but plumbing is the main reason for the noise.
