Homemade Hot Tub
I'm not sure if I'm crazy or not, but this doesn't seem like rocket science. I'm looking to build a deck and would like to put a hot tub in it. What I was considering is essentially building an 8' x 8' box, lining it with Durock backer board, lining that with vinyl/rubber sheeting from either a shower pan or pond liner, and then another layer of Durock. Coat that with a cement thin coat and tile edges/corners/borders. It will be sitting on the ground and not on the deck. I still have to think through heaters/pumps/etc. But what about the rest?

Think about the volumn of water the tub will hold, then multiply by 7. That is the total weight of the water only. Add that to the weight of the structure to get the total weight.
To be on the safe side you will need an engineer to tell you what you need under it to support the weight, and how the sides should be constructed to contain the water.

I did the calculations for weight, came out to just under 10k pounds full. Also is about 10k sq inches area, so about 1 psi loading on the floor. It will be sitting directly on the ground, so I think that I can pass on the engineer for that part. I may need to dig out an old physics book to help me with the loading on the walls.

Your desing will work with a heavy plywood exterior and frames running along the outer wall. Sort of "L" shape with a 45 degree angle frame going up to the wall.
8x8 by 4 feet is nearly 2,000 gallons of water. That is 16,660 Lb of water.
There is a fellow who has great instructions on how to build a home made spa from cinder blocks. It is really clever and seems like a fun project.

how 2 build hot tub wooden outer walls
does anyone know how 2 tell me or show pic of how 2 build my out side hot tub walls i would like wood so can some body help ,i got a 6 person hot tub gave 2 me i did the concrete slab but ??? stuck on how to make cabinet with insulation?? thanks im new here so all can help

The framwork is pretty simple. 2/ 2x4's at each corner, and two equal in between for a total of 16 vertical members. Then on the bottom place three along the foot well and one on the front side where the equipment will sit. Place frames on the bottom under the equipment to mount it.
Put a 1 or two inch layer of foam on the shell and line the inside frames with themal foil, like Reflectex or a product that we sell that is much better. Then on the outside use a house siding, in 4 feet by 8 feet cut to fit the sides. trim the corners with a piece of 2x2 cut and molded you can do that with a recip saw or skill type saw. Then sand it. Assemble with coated deck screws.

8'x12'x8'x12'x3'x12' = 331,776 cu in / wtr's 231 cu in per gal = 1,436 gal x 8.31 # = 5.967659 TONS,,, now add on the weight of the tub & nec equip,,, this is only the STATIC weight, NOT the dynamic weight,,, not rocket science but only arithmetic i'd think you'd need a stout base for this weight,,, we've done it in ga but no frost considerations were nec.
haven't even considered the lateral pressure from the wtr or people's weight when leaning back to enjoy the therapeutic benefits yet. box,,, might want to reconsider your plan.
i don't wanna think about the rest just now

Use the wood panels for the door as well. This makes it much simpler to build. Unscrew a wood panel takes 30 seconds with a screw gun, six screws. The panels can be made so that one panel is half the side. This is a pressboard siding that looks like cedar siding. Paint it gray or what ever you like.
