why are you using a flocculent? never mind i saw the previous post.
using a floc is normally a last resort for any pool. what size pool ? what have you done / added so far?
if the water is clear then a floc really won't do much good. did the sand start after you changed the filter media? if so then you may have damaged one of the finials( the finger looking thingys in the bottom of the filter) in the filter, try vacuming on WASTE this will bypass the filter media and go strait out the backwash. BE WARNED THIS WILL REMOVE LARGE AMOUNTS OF WATER QUICKLY so i would fill the pool to the safest high level before attempting this. once you get the sand out , if it returns then you have a damaged filter.
