Fiberglass pools

Does anyone have a fiberglass pool, and if so how do you like it?

We have a fiberglass pool, and love it. Low maintenance was a key issue for us, and the fiberglass allowed us to use a chlorine generator/ozonator, so we don't have to mess with the chemistry as much. We added a Polaris automatic pool cleaner, that also greatly reduces the amount of maintenance required of us. But as much as it fits our requirements, it's not the right pool for everyone.

Fiberglass comes in a number of shapes/sizes - a limited number. Both vinyl liner and concrete (gunite) pools can be customized to any size/shape you want. Vinyl liner pools can be cheaper initially, but require periodic replacement of the liner. A variety of colors/designs are available for vinyl liners, and concrete pools can be colored any way you like. Most fiberglass pools come in white (some are available in a few colors, but repairs become difficult to disguise).

When you are trying to make your decision, talk to a pool-installer that does all three. He can tell you the pros-cons of each, and won't be fearful of losing you as a client as someone who only does one kind. Then go talk to another one. Check with the Better Business Bureau, and ask for referrals from the local pool supply store.

With any style pool, when talking to your potential pool installer, pay attention to where his focus is. Does he seemed concerned with drainage and the construction process, or does he seem to only talk about how fast he can put your pool in? This is a big investment, and it needs to be done right to prevent problems down the road. Any pool installer should have a list of references - people he has installed pools for that you can talk to - and not just one or two. Call those people and ask them about their pool.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Ubob. It's expensive for 2 or3 months a year but we will see.
