Flapper no flappy.

This just started. The wife had removed the pool vac and after getting it all running again the pump seems to pull so hard that the flapper going into the strainer just stays down and the water gets sucked really hard through the strainer, pump, and filter.

It's a simple above ground pool with a pump, inline chlorinator, and sand filter.

The flapper should stay down when the pump is on. It's meant to keep the stuuf in the strainer from getting back into the pool when the pump is off. If it looks almost like a waterfall when the pump is on you may need to raise the water level.

It's sucking pretty hard. I thought I remembered it kind of flapping up and down slightly.

is the water level low? should be aprox. half way the skimmer plate. there should be a small mark to go by on the skimmerplate.

The water level is 1/2 way up. I shut it down yesterday and the flapper stayed down. There seems to be resistance when moving it back and forth and when I left it up and turned the pump back on it did not flip down on its own, I had to push it down. I guess I'm gonna have to get wet and get in there and see what's going on with the stupid thing.
