Cartridge filter question

Purchased an above ground pool with a cartridge type filter and if I read elswhere correctly you can add DE to skimmer and turn filter into DE filter?

Is that correct or did I misunderstand?

You misunderstood. Some people in the past have believed that adding DE to a cartridge filter will increase it's filtering ability. What it actually does is partially clog up the filter making the passage ways through it smaller. While it may cause the filter to filter out smaller particles (initially) it will also require the filter to be cleaned much more frequently (as it will clog faster) and will shorten the usable life.

you can add DE to a sand filter to increase its efficiency.
