Pool will not drain

I had drained my pool down to about 4 feet deep last night, went to bed and got up this morning to finish the job. I cannot get my pump to siphon. Is this because of the water level in the pool has dropped below the plumbing?? If I add more water should I be able to get a suction again? Or is something completly different.

Just assuming you are draining a inground pool using the main drain, what probably is happening is that your pump will not pull the water that high, try to prime the pump by filling line with water from hose and closing valve then quickly put lid on and turn pump on and open valve. All dependant on what kind of pump and location. Good luck
