Spa draining into pool when pump is off

My spa is built to overflow into the pool when the pump is turned on. But lately, when the pump is off, it has started siphoning down into the pool. It does refill when the pump is turned on. At first it would go down a few inches a night, now it's a few feet! Any ideas?

Thanks,

Faith

Without seeing the setup, first thing comes to mind is a check valve went bad.

I don't think it's an actual equipment problem because it has happened before. I just can't remember how it was resolved! I switched the pump over to "spa only" for a while yesterday and I think that may have done it. The water level was only down about an inch this morning. I wish I understood more about it. (Maybe a valve is dirty/sticky and switching the flow cleans it?)

And this must be a really unusual problem ...I have scoured the internet and haven't found anything even close.

Thanks for your reply.

I would need a picture of equipment to be able to suggest. It could be a air leak in a valve thats letting it drain, or a check valve not working properly.
