electric motor starts then stops

I have an A.O. Smith electric motor for my 18' above ground pool pump. When I plugged it in today it started and stopped after about 2 seconds. I unplugged it and tried it again several times after every couple of minutes and it does the same thing. It also seems to have a hum to it. I don't know the horsepower. On the label it says KW=.37, Max Load=8.0 and Type A. The pump is about 8 years old.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Steve

Pump is thermally protected, it is going bad, possibly bearings since its humming. Will need to be rebuilt or buy a new motor for it.

It doesn't get up to normal speed. Maybe 50%.

Reason I asked is there's an outside chance the capacitor could be bad, but I don't know about it getting 50% spun up. I think if it were the capacitor it would simply hum. You didn't say how old it is.
