Pool Electrical Service Cost

What is the average cost to run the wiring for a new inground pool. The far end of the pool where the light will go is about 60 ft from where the equipment will sit. The light switch is about 25 ft from the pool equipment (not in the same direction as the light wiring). The run from the pool equipment to the main panel is about 80 ft. The pump is 1.5 hp.

I got a quote for $1600 to the basic equipment wiring along with the pool light. To install a 100 amp subpanel for a heat pump he quoted an additional $1400. Does that sound reasonable? I'm in the midwest region if that helps.

This electrician was suggest by the pool installer and apparently does alot of his pool projects.

The 1600.00 sounds about right, but the heat pump should be about 800.00 dependent on how far the wire run is since it does require I think a #8 wire

All the information I can find says the wire size for 100 amps is a #1 wire. Just browsing the net for electrical wire in a #1 look like it can get pretty pricey ($5/ft +). The heat pump information says it takes a 60 amp breaker by itself. The #1 wire will run about 80 ft to the subpanel. The distance from the subpanel to the heat pump will only be 10-15 ft.

I read on another website that the electrical cost for a pool was around $1800, but I thought that was with a heater. I must have been mistaken.

#1 wire? Thats alot bigger than I thought. The price you found was probably with a heater, but a gas heater.

So do think the $1400 is in line for that size heat pump?
Have you ever installed the electrical for a large heat pump as part of the electrical package?
